Chapter 1 - History and Mission Statement

Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the word with approximately 19,763 stores in 59 countries with predominately 64% of those stores being in the United States. Starbucks products consists of drip brewed coffee, espresso-based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, coffee beans, salads, hot and cold sandwiches and panini, sweet pastries, snacks, and items such as mugs and tumblers.  The company has vastly expanded world wide and has a new store opening every workday, a pace continued from the 2000's.

Founded on March 30, 1971 in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks was opened by three partners, English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegl, and writer Gordon Bowker. Which together were inspired to sell high-quality coffee beans and equipment. The name Starbucks is extracted from Moby-Dick. The first Starbucks was located on 2000 Western Avenue from. From 1971-1976 During their first year of operation, they purchased green coffee beans from Peet's, from there began directly buying from growers.
